Default Painting engine bay

My car was originally gold metallic. The previous owner had it (half-assed) painted Guards Red. Of course, they didn't paint the engine compartment so it's still gold. I have the engine out now and would like to repaint it to match the rest of the car. Anyone ever done this? Any pointers? What kind of paint do you recommend? Pimer? Number of coats? Don' want it to get too hot and peel or, God forbid, catch on fire.

TIA,
Scott

Listen, my car is Guards Red, it is painted Black, the engine bay is red as well. But the catch is, the chassis and underbody would be red as well. Same thing in your case, you would need to flip the car upside down to repaint the chassis, or remove every single thing (basically just the shell) and repaint it. It would make more sens and more economic if you re-painted it back to gold (Champaign Metallic).

I'll second the vote for going back to original... but I am a bit biased.

Make that three - a "different color" respray is ALWAYS going to look like a respray unless it's a frame-off restoration (or complete tear-down & reassembly in the case of unibodies like these).

the 951 I just got was originaly burgandy, but was repainted yellow. I plan on painting any visable burgandy areas flat black. I have seen this done in many cars and I think that it's a good alternative.

That's a good alternative. My car was black from the beginning so the areas that weren't resprayed in green are still black, which looks very factory.

I did not remove the engine but I removed the large things that were in the way so to speak. Like the coolant tank, headlight washer tank etc.
That was enough to paint the most visible parts in green.

I take it your overheating problem was worse than you figured it to be?
