What are these sensors for (pic)?
This is a picture of the engine area under the intake manifold. There are two sensors labeled 1 and 2. Number 1 is towards the front of the engine and obviously number 2 is towards the rear. I know one of them is the engine temp sensor. Which one is the temp sensor and what is the other one?

Are these sensors known to fail often? While I'm in there I was thinking of replacing them, but I have no idea how much of a PITA they might be or how much they cost.

The sensor with the blue top is the DME Temp Sensor (otherwise known as the fuel temp sensor). The golden one is the water temp sensor for the gauge. Yes, the gauge sensor does tend to fail every now and then (the workshop manual shows how to replace them). Replace both for more accurate temp readings for the DME and the temp gauge.
