Question A/F Gauge and Wide Band O2 Sensors?

Hey all

Have a bunch of questions regarding A/F gauges and needing to have a Wide Band to run them.

1) What is the advantage of having one? I won't do much tuning right at the moment.....but maybe in the future with a MAP upgrade/ Turbo etc. So I'm thinking it would be good just to know what my car is doing at the moment.

2) What kind should I get? Would an Autometer digital A/F gauge do the trick if I'm not planning on really dialing in my computer myself (probably do this at the dyno)

3) Lindsey has a Wide Band for $150....could I just buy that and hook it up to an autometer gauge like this one? http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...&part=atm-4375

Thanks in advance. I know lots of questions....but that's what I figure we're all here for right?

Will, no you just can't buy a WBO2 sensor and hook it up to gauge. The WBO2 sensors require a controller box to convert the voltage outputs to an analog output(display). Lindseys UEGO kit is $449. It is a very nice kit and has one of the highest sample rates out there. Techedge makes a nice kit. Sam Grant just did a group buy on the Zietronix(sp?),,,the thread is a page or two over, check that out.

As far as the cost of WBO2 kits - in relation to what we spend on modifications, I don't think $300 - $500 is too much to spend to protect that investment.

FWIW, we just put the LR unit on our track car too. Jim has the LR unit also on his street car and I have the Techedge on mine.

I am a bit confused. I see that the LR unit changes into an anolog output. The way they sell the Autometer gauge I linked to, is the gauge and a Wide Band kit for only $100. It seems like the autometer gauge is less accurate....thus requires less wiring.

As I said earlier....I'm not looking for something to tell me dead on what my ratio is....just something to put me in the ballpark. I was hoping that I could get away with this gauge for $200 all said and done. If more I would rather just spend some time at the dyno after I buy all my mods.

Thanks for the help Ski

You would be better off with an EGT guage, then the standard narrow band a/f guage.

the techedge is only 250 if you can get a group buy and then you only need to weld an exhaust bung on and you will have it all for under $300 not bad for knowing exactly what your air fuel ratio's are. That's what I'm doing, now no dyno is necessary.

Hey Will-
You probably don't need it now with your setup, but later on, it would be a wise investment. PLX makes a good unit: www.plxdevices.com I have the M-300. Gets the job done. The PLX will also scale its output so you can connect it to the DME.

I also have the PLX M300. The good thing about that unit is the small dimension of the controller/display box.
I made a simple and sweet panel for it so everything but the display is hidden and it really blends in.
