I fabbed my own exhaust on my S2 last winter and posted a thread about it. Also self taught myself to TIG weld (and even back purged!) with guidance/coaching from a professional welder friend who welds stainless milk tanks.

I did it because I had a goal of learning to weld and someday fabricating my own exhaust. Did lots of research and TIG practicing before moving forward with the project. Total cost including 2-3 tanks (80 cu ft tank) of 100% argon gas would be around $700 or so I would say, maybe more, maybe less. I mainly used 15 degree clamshell cuts for the bends and 3" straight 304 stainless tubing, vibrant muffler, flowmaster cat, car chemistry baffle. Chop saw and a Eastwood 140i scratch start tig (multiprocess) welder with er347 filler. I also went with V-bands and have a MBRP resonator that goes in place of the cat, but I havent had much of a need (prefer the cat).

Just 400-450, running an EFR turbo. probably need to upgrade the ECU, just running a MAF and chips. (head was fully done by PowerHaus) I have a 16v S head I'm rebuilding with 968 intake valves.
