951 Wastegate Options
Hello, I've had an 86 951 (with a new '91 engine installed in '07 and two-piece crossover) for a few years now and the stock waste gate diaphragm seems shot. I tested the cycling valve and it is commanding boost, upon disassembly the stock waste gate diaphragm doesn't seem to be holding any pressure so I'm leaking boost and running like the car is using the default spring without any boost enhancement via the cycling valve. Since the OEM waste gate is seemingly very expensive and not well made I think a Tial F38 with a 0.4 bar spring should work well (along with an MBC since I don't think the stock cycling valve works with it, correct me if I am wrong). The car has records back to when it was new in 86' and I noticed it has a Weltmeister 250 chip installed as well. The 951 is a little bit on the back burner with winter coming and my 993 needing more attention so I am not looking for massive power, etc.. just something to keep the car running well until I have more resources to dedicate to it. Does the above setup seem rational, I am guessing I will need to also install a boost gauge as well, but do I need a wideband AFR gauge if I stay within OEM boost (0.75 is OEM peak I think), I am worried about potentially running lean?

I have the completer Tial f38 kit which includes the adapter plates if your interested. The adapter plates enable you to bolt up to your exhaust without modification.
