I was messing with my new Tial wastegate checking out how the adapters etc fitted when I tried to open the valve upwards using thumb pressure.
No go, not one mm.
I thought about it and came to a conclusion that with about 12 square inches of diaphragm and a 6-7 cracking pressure the spring would need about 72 pounds of force to begin to deflect it. way beyond what my puny thumb could produce.
can any one with an uninstalled Tial out there confirm this?
If there hadn't been a previous post about errant Loctite fouling the stroke of a brand new Tial I probably wouldn't be so paranoid.

Thanks guys, I just needed some confirmation to put my mind at rest.
I'm sure it's absolutely fine, and being a puny computer programmer who struggles to even change a set of plugs I probably need to work out for a few months before I can deflect my 0.8 bar spring.

I was just about to post the same thing.
I have the .9bar spring. Lest say 13psi.
I cant even budge it.
I wasnt sure about the sare of the diaphragm but if oyu think 12"sq then i am looking at 156lbs on the btm of the valve.. i.e. no way will it budge.
I am going to hook up a pump to make sure it opens before i fit it..

Hi slim_boy_fat
first of all welcome to the secret brotherhood of puny thumbs.
the sa is probably closer to 8 square inches ( I did a quick "it's about that big" and measured it with a ruler, the wg is at home and I'm at work)
Accoarding to Corky Bell most wastegates crack at about 50% of their rated boost pressure so that's 6.5 psi for your spring, giving a grand total of 52 pounds of force (that's a very serious pair of thumbs)
That's my problem, a head full of theoretical knowledge and very little experience but we learn all the time.
