Group buy "feeler" post: 3 inch test pipes
Hi All,
I am interested in purchasing a 3 inch test pipe in the near future. I have verified that I can get group pricing from at least one source for a pipe that meets my requirements:
1. Utilizes Stock flanges
2. Has provision for wastegate dump tube
3. Is three inches in diameter
4. Is a direct fit replacement for the OEM part
The pipe I have have identified is polished stainless steel, made by a manufacturer, and resold by a number of tuners in the 951 community. At this juncture I have no commitment to a particular tuner or product.
I am interested in two things:
A. Discerning how many people have an interest in a test pipe that conforms to the four numbered requirements above.
B. Identifying a list of all suppliers who can supply a pipe that meets the four numbered requirements.
Once I have those two pieces of information in hand I will:
1. Finish securing John D's approval
2. Coordinate the group buy
Thanks,
Matt West

It doesn't look like we have enough interest yet. Like many of you I am price sensitive. I am hoping to get the pipe and parts necessary to install deliverred for around $450.

If this is on the Fabspeed unit (sounds like it is from your description) that is the same as the group buy that I ran a couple of months back got it for. The unit is VERY nice although I haven't had a chance to get mine installed yet.
Hope you can get enough to do one.....I was sure I even had enough about the time my group buy started but we had a few people join in afterwards. As close after the last buy there may or may not be enough people here who can now afford one to have a group buy just yet. But then I kind of thought the same thing about my group buy I was setting up...

Does this test pipe make the exhaust sound louder? I already have the SFR 3" pipe and Im satisfied with the noise level already and I was just wondering if it added to the loudness. If its not a real big increase I would be interested.

I have heard that it does increase the noise but I cannot speak to how much. I have also heard that a 3 inch turbo back exhaust is one of the best upgrades you can make.
I too have the catback section, my eyes this is just completing the upgrade.

I have the Fabspeed testpipe and I recommend it highly. Great quality, and only a little louder if stock catback (2.5 in) and muffler is retained but the sound is nice and solid. It fits like stock but needs careful installation because it is larger and may touch certain parts causing increased vibration and resonance if not meticulously done (ask me how I know!). But once installed perfectly, the sound is beautiful and I love it. In fact, when I later installed the SFR catback and muffler (which I purchased through the Rennlist group buy) to make it 3 in. all the way, I found that made the sound much louder but less appealing, being more rumbly (a "looser" bass, in audiophile terms for those who are) and now with slight resonance. But that's just me. If I can't get used to the new sound, I'll go back to the Fabspeed testpipe + stock catback configuration.
