Does painting the car decrease it's value, Why?

It really depends on the car. Mine was in good mechanical shape with a very tired paintjob. The driver's side door and front fender were sprayed with a spray bomb. For that reason I got the car cheap. With the new paint that the car is getting right now I know the value has gone up. I did have the advantage of seeing the car with all the paint removed and I know that the body is solid. No bondo and no previous body work (although the pass. side door was once Zermatt and the nose was once Guards Red).
