Yes, i too think that the KLR is not for the boost. Maybe that is why the chips available for these cars are DME and KLR chips. Not just one?

The short answer is that the KLR controls the boost and ignition timing after the DME provides the basic fuel injection and ignition signals.
The two boxes work hand in hand to give you a combination of power and reliability.
