Default Cams for 3.0 8V

Looking for a new cam for brand new 104.14 bore 3.0. Talking to pf at rs barn about needing to alter tops of guides to have clearance for .500 lift cam ? anyone using a new Lindsey cam? Any suggestions or input would be appreciated.

Didn't you have an aftermarket cam in your previous build? Otherwise you could try RS if Pete has anything. Or John Milledge if he's reachable. Cat Cams in the UK might do something. Assuming LR still use the Webcam welded versions.

With all the engine mods I’m still running the stock cam with #140 springs and chrome moly locks. Had some #1 lifter noise at startup of new motor after pressure relief valve so I’m doing cam and lifters. Pete has a stage 3 stage 2 is ten weeks out.

You can expect 8-10 weeks lead time for Catcams as well. They also have springs, lifters, and retainers depending on your needs.

Confirmed two lifters are bad and have no resistance on the tip. Glad I pulled it down, going with a stage 3 from Pete RS barn. 😁😁

I have the turbo cam from CatCams, no idle under 950 rpm, but the sound is gnarly

I hope it’s not some backfiring nonsense, I saw a real bad utube of a stage 3 cam. I really like the Lindsey 500-1 and 2 they claim no mods of valve guides for retainer to seal clearance. Not sure they are worth $300 more

Sorry for the revival but what was necessary to modify to run the turbo cam from CatCams? On their website and it says machining is needed... did you have to do any of that?

The cam I’m using is a stage 3 from PF at RS barn it’s made by crow not as big as the cam at the top of there cams. I have 140 lbs springs with lighter retainers (chrome moly) from Lindsey. No out of the norm mods other than fixing the poor workmanship by Lindsey on the $1500 worth of porting that when checked by another found my head shook his flow bench so bad at 300 to 400 lift that he had not seen before?

Was looking at RS barns stage 3 cam, Pete said he had one left atm so I might ****** that up. Overall good times with it? I'm still 2.5L but with a big turbo, VEMS and plenty of other goodies. I will be doing the 150# springs and lighter retainers you have from LR. Apparently will be sending my head elsewhere though...

My performance of my 3.0 104.1 bore is so much better than the engine LR built that blew up at less than 5k. I did all the dimensions and assembly of the engine I’m running now. If you want a CNC quality port and valve job instead of a flap wheel. I can set you up with who I had redo my head 👍

Yeah I'm doing cam and head work now as my valve seals are shot so it's a "while i'm in there" thing, building a hybrid motor on the side though.
Please do let me know who you sent your head off to for work, I am doing an NA head instead of sticking with the 951 head so I can flow more down the road with the hybrid motor.

I’m looking at getting a n/a head to racers edge in Tucson to complete the CNC program. My head still had good ceramic but who knows how long it will last. If you are interested send me a pm

Yes very interested, will PM as soon as admin allows me. Had my account for a while but was more of a reader than a writer.

Can they disassemble and clean the NA head I bought or is it only porting and valve jobs...?

No they are a complete machine shop !!! The best quality work I’ve see and I bitch about everything. I had a gain of about 10% over the LR port job.If we use your N/A head to complete the program that will help. I have two full sets of turbo valves and springs, retainers that can go to anyone that needs them.
