caliper dust boot centric/stoptech hard to install.
Hi All
I have been using the centric/stoptech dust boots of late on the race car and I find them impossible to install without any lubrication. However If I put a tiny bit of rubber grease or similar on them they eventually pop out and wont stay in their groove..
Any secret here? Are they just badly designed?

I had the same issue years ago but don't remember how I eventually got them in.
However, they hardened and fell apart after ~5 track weekends, so I question their value...

When I used to track a lot more than I do now I remember my regular brake dust boots were pretty much done after a few sessions. Then they became more of a hinderance than of any help.
Yes, without them you do risk debris getting in there and damaging the seals or scratching the bores, but without them you are proving an escape route for that debris and you can examine them easier. Plus I used to change the seals once every season anyway so nothing really had a chance to take hold. Ymmv

Good for you. I find it keeps the debris out of the seal rings and keeps the pistons moving more freely and stops any corrosion in this area. Of course I do all my own work and try to keep costs down too. This helps.
