So who has gotten rid of the factory Star key bolts? I cannot stand star bolts. Just a strip waiting to happen. Anyone gone standard hex or an Allen key?

Yeah I hate em...I'll give you that. Axles, flywheel, twelve point; I did change the ones that were on my water neck out of the hear to allen.
What is the rating of the bolts? because if we can find some, I'll put em in the track car next month.

Guys - WAIT!!!!
Yeah - I hate the star bolts - but be careful of what you use on the flywheel. Them there bolts are DESIGNED to stretch a small bit - and as such should only be used once. Since they are disposable - I just grind the heads off - or use a drill to get them out (drill into the center of the star with a bit just about as big as the bolt itself - and whallah - the bolt comes out with hand pressure when you're done!).
Always replace them.... Now I have seen many people replace the darn CV bolts with the right grade (no - I don't recall the number but I think it was 8.8) hex heads.
HTH!

Both CV joint bolts and flywheel bolts are grade 12.9. Grade 10.9 could be used a replacement but I would not. I replaced my CV joint bolts with grade 12.9 dacrotized allen head bolts. Very nice. I had to buy 250 of them though so if anyone's interested, I have a few extras to sell. I also have a source for allen head flywheel bolts. Who all wants them? I'll check on prices.
FYI, do not try and use grade 8.8 bolts for the CV joints. 8.8 is only designed for a max torque around 17 ft. lbs. Grade 10.9 and 12.9 will easily take the 30 ft. lb. torque required on the CV joints where as grade 8.8 will strip.

When I changed the clutch on my 924, 3 of the flywheel bolts were loose enough to take out by hand. The flywheel had been surfaced and all the triple-squares were chewed up a bit. You should get the OEM bolts, unless you are a turkey.

A set = 24 bolts, 6 per CV joint. The only "issue" with these bolts is the dacromet coating is quite slippery. As a result, you'll want to lower the torque on the bolts to about 27-28 ft. lbs. But, with that coating, the bolts will not corrode.
