Has anyone modified an AFM to remove the barn door and insert a MAF within the AFM housing?

The Smog check inspections in my area ( NorCal) have been getting tough lately. They have a manual that has them specifically verify the AFM is in place.

I've come across threads where someone doing that was mentioned, but I never found the "source" thread (if indeed there is one).

The remember Raceboy on here sells VEMS stand-alone ecu’s, I have one in my turbo. One of the selling features is gutting the AFM to keep the appearance of stock. VEMS uses a MAP sensor and doesn’t require an air meter like the AFM.
