Default Help: Will 17x10 fit all around stock 951

Local shop says 17x10 rims won't fit under stock fenders of my '86 951.

Can anyone tell me if 17x10's fit????

Not sure what size tires.....but will know what size to get when I get the rims if it's possible?

How wide are any of you running for track/race? Thanks.

That shop obviously haven't measured closely enough. Check out the 944 Wheels FAQ section on my 951 RacerX website. There's some measurements of clearances on the front under "front-wheel clearance".

I've got a set of 17x10.5" and 11.5" wheels on my '86 and they fit just fine. The trick is to increase the offset with wider wheels like Porsche did in going form the Turbo to TurboS cars. This places most of the extra width on the inside where there's more room.

The problem isn't clearance so much as finding tires of the correct diameter (about 25"). With the 275/40-17 I run in the rear, it actually rubs because the tire reaches forward more than normal and touches the fender ahead. If there was a 295/35-17 tire, it would fit just perfectly on a 12" rim..

hmmm interesting as I have been told the exact same thing. I was wanting 10incher's in the back and he said it couldn't be done.

We also looked at Nitto 555r's for my rear which were 275's he thought they would rub. On my 17' c2's could I run a 275-40 tire without rub.

Great guys. Thanks. I wish more would chime in here. The turboS is capable because of later offset. It's the '86 offset I am concerned with. Good advice too about keeping staggered widths.

I can't accept some rubbing as fitting though. As this will be for racing, I need proper clearence!

Please, others chime in with advice/testimonies/pictures.

The '86 offset only means that you'll need custom ($$) wheels to get the sizes you want.

Even in late offset, to squeeze a 10" wheel up front will most likely require a custom wheel.
