Default Replace just one lifter???

Normally I wouldn't consider replacing anything other than a complete set (motor has over 100K on it) BUT these little beasts are soooo expensive and I rarely see/hear about them being a problem, that I'm tempted to just replace the bad one(s), assuming I can figure out exactly which they are.

Besides the labor factor, any good reasons not to do them one at a time?

If you are certain that you know which one is faulty then just replace that one. Are you doing this yourself? If so, then it's just your time. If you need to go back in and do another in a few months or a year, so what it doesn't take that long.

I agree, you're just out time and another cam tower gasket.

The ones that are soft, push those back or front to the other ones you have lined up. Put just a few psi of air to the ones that are soft when pushing on them, if they stay soft after the air charge, change em.

Hi Chris... thanks. You too Ski.

Chris, one other concern, or actually, a question over whether it should be a concern is, how much should I worry about running with a bad lifter and mushrooming a valve?

The lifter click has been intermitent for a while, getting steadily worse... should I be prepared to have to yank the head? Guess the question is, how much can I abuse the valve before I "pay" (literally, and probably you...)

TIA

Adrial, the small hole on the side. If they'll leak air, oil will soon follow.

When I was redoing my headgasket last year, my 4yo got out the old ones from my spare engine and started playing building blocks...yeah, that cost me a cam tower gasket after I put it back together - after a couple of phone calls, I found out how to test em good and back together first try. Sweet silence - well that's relative isn't it.
