Default Water injection reference guide, let make one.

There has been some information here and there adout running water injection. On the assumption we have a trigger (Link in my case) that runs on load or rpm etc. Lets make a reference guide for the kinds of pumps and where they may be mounted/fitted. And more importantly the types of valves that may be used, and the amount or proportion of water that needs to be injected. I guess places to mount the valve/s may be of interest to. I am thinking IC pipe in front of the TB will be where I am going. I imagine there are issues about atomising the water too. Lets make it scientific and as generic and easy for Joe to use as possible. Let the fun begin.

www.aquamist.co.uk

and i think it is www.snowperformace.com

HTH.

The key as i understand it is to have a high enough pressure to atmize the water properly.

Yeah I know about those systems. I just dont want to pay NZ900 for them! It can be done cheaper I believe if you have a triggering mech already. So we need high enough pressure to atomise it, what pressure is that?

I have a big pump and was going to let the PWM from the DTA control an injector or two....

Here's a few odds and ends...

Here's Snow where I bought mine.

Tips from Aquamist. Worth reading this site if you're going to do this.

My next step for WI will be to have the SMT6 control it.

Funny... Dan, I have the exact same pump... Only tested it. But it is pretty awesome...

That is the pump that comes with the Snow kit. The only other critical piece would be the nozzles and maybe a pressure switch. The rest could come from the downtown hardware store.

Now that my car is running. I've seen the water injection light come on often

Here is a reference, I drew my inspiration and got most parts from:

Bugger me the snow performance looks pretty decent. Anyone got pics of the install? Does it trigger off boost level? Is that what the switch is that they mention in the details? Can it be griven off a standalone through the relay? Where did you guys mount the pump/resivour?

So we assume 100-140psi pumps are suitable. and the nozzles in the kitsets take care of temselves. How much volume, and does this volume vary? Are the pumps or flow levels binary (on/off)?

Here is the original Snow Performance thread. (hope you're not in a hurry)

Water Injection thread

My install in case you missed it.
The good the bad and the ugly..

The hard part is where to put the pump. One person put it inside the fenderwell. I put mine behind the front bumper. I'm looking for another place that will still be below the windshield washer tank. Another thought is to put it in the back of the car somewhere. The Snow kit ended up costing around $350. Not a bad deal.

It is an on/off switch. but I think it could be done differently with 2 nozzles that would be staged. I'm not sure that would be necessary in my case. I'm just trying to beat the high cost of race gas.

I have the pressure switch set to turn on around 10psi. Assuming a slight delay I should have water by the time the boost gets to about 12-15psi. I chose the small nozzle that snow sent, can't remember the size, it may be in the other thread.

I saw your write up DanD, tanks for that. I am thinking that the 2C aquamist may be best at this stage. The pumps seem smaller and the system looks more developed.

No doubt if you have the money, go for Aquamist. You can't go wrong.

I dont like spending money! I most always go for the homemade route. But if I cant get sufficient information, I will pay for that expertise...

The thing I like about the Aquamist set-up is that the controller is programmable to increase flow with RPM. It's kinda like adding a nitrous set-up, you want to have the injected volume match the actual air-flow, not just ON & OFF. A simple pressure-switch trigger is fine to start the process, but you end up with too much flow initially, and too little by redline since the same volume of water is injected continuously.
