Hey Guys,
I thought I should start first with an introduction:
Ive been a car nut for awhile with my current love being a 95 m3..that is tastefully modified, but nothing outrageous yet.
I know some of the members post on bimmerforums (eclou in particular) and some may know of the new twin screw supercharger soon to be distributed by Eurosport Performance in Utah ( www.sharked.com ). This kit is said to put down 343rwhp with just an exhaust and more with cams and the introduction of more boost. as well the price is right at about $9k after installation of the SC as well as a stronger clutch setup.
My question for the 951 owners is roughly how much would you end up spending to see somewhere in the vicinity of 370-400rwhp? I am not currently thinking of selling the M3, as it would be nice to have 2 wicked fast cars, one being turbocharged.
I have been looking at 951s on autotrader and it seems nice ones are around 15k (is there a 15k rule where if you dont buy it for 15k you will have spent 15k when you finish making it right?)
If anyone can point me in the right direction as far as mods go and give me a rough estimate of what it would cost to maintain and make it 370whp worthy, I would appreciate it.
The only thing really scaring me off at the moment is the cost of maintance for anything that might go wrong. If someone can let me know what to look for when looking over a 951 (weak spots in build, especially good or especially "crappy" years) I would also be very appreciative.
Thanks guys. I will now go back to searching the forum. If anyone needs any BMW advice, feel free to ask.
-Richard

The twinscrew is hard to beat performance wise b/c of the tremendous torque it produces. That and the AA turbo are about the only rivals for a tweaked 951.
The entry cost into the 951 is much less though, and you can build it up as the budget permits. My $3500 951 hit 260-270 rwhp and 300# torque with only about $1100 in mods. Plan to Hit 340 rwhp with an additional $1000 in mods. Chris Prack is hitting silly #'s with the 2.5L. The "rule" is probably closer to $10k in these cars IMHO.
As far as maintenance, the M3 is pretty maintenance free. The 951 requires more simply due to the timing belt and turbo system. I personally find the 951 easier and cheaper to work on. Parts costs less and used parts are plentiful.

Wow, 9K for a kit.....that's quite high. As far as 951 is concerned, the general consenus is buy the best example you can afford (but looks like you will have to set some money aside for upgrades
) In addition to a search, check out gururacing.net speedforceracing.com lindseyracing.com and vitesseracing.com which all appear to be well regarded here. There are some others but I forget.....

9 grand for a SC? I paid 9 grand for my CAR! and it was in near perfect condition. I real nice one. it had 116,000 miles full records window sticker etc. Expect to spend around 9 grand for a nice one, and 10-12 for an prestine one. Mods are easy and cheap... for 9 grand in mods on the 951, you'd be very happy!
