Turbo S Trans VS 968 6sp
Guys,
Just was looking for opinions on which trans to go with for DE events mostly. Should I just have my Turbo S trans rebuilt with better gearing? Or do a 968 6sp trans? Trying to keep the cost around $2,000. Also which trans is stronger overall? Any info would be much appriciated.....JP

On the other hand, there's a guy on the 968 board who swapped in a 951S tranny in a 968. I think it was for strength -- again, I have no actual data. Also, the 968 tranny had problems with the pinion bearing.

2k for a 968 trans swap is a tight budget. i think the factory fixed the r/p issues in 93/94 but clarify w/ the 968 guys. stilll in anycase your over 2k in parts alone.
its my understanding the turbo s trans is the strongest out there. i know 1st and second are beefed up in that trans...but regearing (custom wise....say something like PHII gears) 2k is a tight budget also. a mix and match of OEM gears could be done for 2k...but i've only heard of taller 5ths being installed...i'm guessing you want a tighter setup though. check out danno's racer x site for gear ratio comparisons across the years/models.
what about an S2 trans hybrid'ed w/ your stronger parts? anyone ever do that before?
