Default Brake Rotor type question

Preface: this isn't a "which brand of rotors should I get" thread; I've already figured that part out. My issue is that when I was getting ready to order a pair to replace my front rotors, I noticed that most online shops make a note about "Not for M030 cars" or "Only for M030 cars". Is there a way to tell which ones I have by visual inspection of the rotors? I have a set on my car as well as an old set that were given to me by the previous owner.

The trunk sticker doesn't have M030 listed nor does the original window sticker, but when I asked the PO about the car's history, he said that an owner before him "installed the M030 suspension bits off a later 968", hence my question.

What model 944 do you have? and
Do you have coilover front struts?

Very likely you don’t have M030 suspension, probably the po only fitted the M030 sway bars from the 968 as that is a popular and desirable upgrade that won’t affect the brake rotors you need.

It's an '87 951. The email he sent me specifically mentioned front control arms, Bilstein Yellow shocks, adjustable sway bars, "probably" stiffer rear torsion bars, and front brake cooling ducts (not currently installed). No idea on the front struts.

Edit: he also mentions the car being lowered with Weltmeister springs in the front.

From what you are stating here it doesn’t have M030 suspension.

M030 uses regular front control arms, Weltmeister springs won’t fit on M030 front struts, and M030 doesn’t include Bilstein shocks. Only thing you stated that hints on any M030 parts is the adjustable sway bar as the rear 968 M030 19mm sway was adjustable.

M030 front struts have a threaded body (3) regular struts are like (2). You can take a peek in the front wheel well to confirm.

That's good to know, thanks! I'll look at the car later and see if there are threads or not.

Nevadarain, if you’re asking about brake disks, the M030 option came with larger and thicker brake disks and different calipers that were used on the 928S4 at the time, a much heavier car. From memory, the diameter was 305mm or so vs 298mm for standard brake rotor and it was also thicker as well. The steering knuckle and hub were also different in order to mount the M030 option, and these are now hard to find. These parts are independent of the struts which mount on the control arm and body. So, the best way to determine the brake rotor that you’ll need is to measure your current rotors and you’ll know whether you have M030 or not.

In addition to the above, the m030 rotors are 32mm thick while the stock rotors are 28mm thick. M030 front brake caliper is also significantly larger than the rear caliper, while the stock front caliper is the same size as the rear. Lastly, the m030 front brakes are a nice upgrade over the stock parts.

The ez way to tell.. as far as what rotors you need are the way the calipers are mounted to the spindle. Are there two Allen bolts that are positioned axially? ( Fore/aft). Or are the caliper bolts on the backside regular hex?
(No adapter bracket)

Note: to avoid confusion when ordering for an mo30 car I just order 89 rotors.. even though my car is an 88-s

Yay for team effort on the dimensions! I have a set of old rotors that were included with the car when I bought it and measured those: 298mm diameter and 28mm thick (same thickness as the ones currently on the car). Seems like MAGK944's suspicion was correct and these are not M030 rotors. Thanks everyone!
