The best quality fuel we can get over in the UK is 91 octane, and thats a premium quality fuel, the standard stuff is 89 octane...

Altho we call it RON98 and RON 95 respectivly.

My car is going on the rollers thins time next week, so i should get a good A/F reading and boost readings too.

If the car is runnig abit rich or lean would changing to FQS1 or 2 be the way to adjust or is there other methods?

I am runnig the v9 chips at approx 18psi max. 14psi at 6000+rpm(need a wastegate!!)

very interested in ur dyno run slim, especially the afr. also 14psi at 6000+, as you can see.

FQS1 or 2 would be waaaay too much adjustment i think (going from 35 to 55/65 lb/hr). i would think a chip remap would be required, or a piggyback of some sort.

What fuel do you use? BP 98 octane?

yeah, or optimax. just got a reply from danno that my spool-up might be slightly quicker than expected, hence the slight detonation as it's still in the lean zone.

Cool - you might want to stick to the BP stuff, I've heard that optimax is 98 octane average , whereas ultimate is 98 octane minimum. Haven't got a source to back that up though, so it may just be rumour/propoganda...

well i do like the ultimate a little better, but it's not as plentiful as optimax down in melbourne. i'm gonna run at FQS4 anyway, to be on the safe side. danno reckons it's only worth about 2 or 3 kw at the most anyway.

Its Optimax i run 98 octane (which is the same as US 91octane)

Is does Danno recon that FQS 4 is the one to use or is it just on your car he is suggesting this?

well actually, it was somebody else that said danno said, etc. danno has suggested that perhaps the chips are not tuned optimally for my particular configuration, which for whatever reason seems to hit max boost earlier than expected. there's a lean spot (about 13:1 or so) to spool up the turbo, and then a rich spot (about 10.5:1) programmed into the chips for when max boost hits, to combat detonation etc. but on my car this rich spot happens about 500 or so rpm after the boost peak, and i think i'm getting a couple of rattles right as the boost hits its peak (afr is in the 12.5:1 or so ratio at that point). so danno said he might get me a custom remap that will shift the lean/rich spot further down the rpm range, presumably about 400-500 rpm or so.

btw, the dyno guy didn't think the detonation was a big deal, as the knock sensor took care of it in pretty short order. he also said the AFR was just about perfect, almost identical to what they set up when they're programming motec etc. so if i get the new chip etc it should be spot on - nice work danno!

also, i read somewhere that Optimax/BP ultimate are 87 MON, which makes them around 92-3 AKI (which is the US octane measure).

Good stuff there mate, theres no point in me worring untill i get the RR session next week, then i can see where i am.

I am not sure what the MON is on Opti or Ultimate, both companies are very very cagy over hear in disclosing what the figures are for MON all they quote os RON and that is meant to be 97 RON Ultimatei and 98 RON Optimax. BP do say that they have a slightly hier MON than Shell but i just am not sure. I wish someone would do an independant test on all the fuels available in the uk to give some definative answers.

Once i get the rr graph i might get back to danno and see about a better map iof there are any probles, as i got one of the first sets of v9 chips and i think they got a bit better as time went on.

Can anyone give me some suggestions??

what do you mean you can't find it? you can't find the plug, or you can't find the socket?

i dunno man, race gas or not, i wouldn't bother. according to danno the extra 4 degrees of advance only buys you 10hp at the most...are you even going to notice that when you're already at 270-280?

Can't find the plug. In the pic with the instructions it's clear as day.
On my '88 I couldn't find it at the wiring bundle for the KLR & DME as shown in the picture.

you might not have the plug, only the socket. in which case you might have to go buy one. the socket (in case that's what you meant) is pretty much exactly where it's shown in the pictures. about 5-10 cm away from the DME plug. there may be two sockets on the harness (the other is the impedance adaptor), in which case the RCP is the one closer to the harness. it may be wrapped behind some tape (mine was partially hidden behind some tape).

have you removed the mounting bracket for the DME/KLR from the car (well, unscrewed it so you can pull it all out into the footwell)? you'll have a hard time finding the plugs if you don't.

Yea, I had all that stuff out installing the chips. I'll dig around a bit more down there. Although you might be right........may not even be worth messing with!

"However I can't find that damn Region Coding Plug anywhere under there!!!!! "

Maybe the guys that stole your original chips took the RCP as well? Here's what it looks like installed:

Note that the wires actually aren't connected inside the DME connector. It's just a loop that goes under the grommet and comes back out again. So if it's been pulled out, the plug itself can be further up the harness somewhere.
