Default Acid etch on cylinder walls

I was going to post this in the recent thread, but didn't want to bump for an obvious reason.

I was just curious why you couldn't just do a light application of an acid to the cylinder walls to etch away the aluminum and reveal the silicon instead of the seamingly more difficult abrasive procedure. Etching to preferentially disolve certain phases is a common procedure. Just a thought.

Thanks.
