Help Needed, headlight washer nozzles/delete caps front bumper....
Anyone an expert on say....Euro Front bumpers/US Front bumpers, headlight washer nozzles and the caps that replace those nozzles?
Ok, part number: 951.628.301.00
Scenario:
86 951, US version.
Installing European Front bumper
Installing ordered "Headlight Washer Delete-Caps
Order these, guy from bodyshop calls..they dont fit. "Hole is about the size of a dime, caps are about the size of a quarter. I cant look at it since I am 3.5 hours away. Are they retarded as I know these do not sit flush..but Im not coming up with how they mount/connect/stay put either...
Is the european bumper different? I seriously doubt it...told him I would ask the Porsche gods and get back to him...before I call him back to tell him they fit I figure I would get some opinions.
Thanks, take care...

Front Bumper
Sam,
Did you get a chance to snap some shots of that bumper you are selling?
Just wondering. I'm itching to get parts ready for the spring "overhaul".
Thanks,
JR

hey sam;
i think i know the problem. i took out a set of caps from a bumper (although, it was US spec i believe) for my friends race car, and the hole is the size of a dime, and the back of the plug sits inside the hole, and then has a washer that screws onto the back of the cap to make sure it is secure on the bumper...and those washers are the size of a quarter. maybe the body shop guy just didnt notice that you can unscrew the washer on the back? also, the ones i removed were old, and the washer was difficult to unthread. maybe thats another reason the guy at the body shop didnt know you could just unscrew it..? give it a try. as soon as he removes the washer, the cap should be able to slide right into the hole on the bumper. and yes, mine don't sit flush on my bumper, so the tops shouldn't be the same size as the hole anyways.

Ill call him and see, but these were brand new caps, I quickly glanced at them before shipping them and I never would have known they had a washer that screws to hold them together...I will check though. Thanks for the insight!!

no such luck...there are no washers on the back. I have come to the conclusion I was sent the wrong part. I called partsheaven to locate a used set, if I cant find them used Scott Gomes is going to try and locate me a new set.
Thanks man...(I think I sent you a private message about possibly knowing the whereabouts to come a cross a used set?)

They said I will notice over time, apparently polyurethane isnt the easiest to fill?
Either way Id rather do it the right way and they agree. I dont think they want to mess with filling holes in a brand new bumper.

hey sam, sorry to hear that. unfortunately, i have no clue where to get those used. maybe try going to your local porsche dealer and i guess try to order them again. if they look different, then i guess you'll know they are the correct ones right? how come you want to delete your washer nozzles anyways? are they not working?
about knowing where to get a used set, you might want to try the author of this website, "http://www.geocities.com/sl951/". i e-mailed him a few times last year when i was lost as to what certain problem were with my car. he's a very nice guy, and responded quickly. his site also had some very good info. he might know the exact part number, or maybe where to get them used...

I did mine in 2000 along with repairing a nasty tear and there is no evidence of repair at this point. They might not be too comfortable working on one and that's understandable. Try these guys www.BumperPlugs.com here's the phone# 704-536-8830.
