Prospeed 86 951 Big Red kit installed
picked up some Big Red adapters from Jason at Paragon. These were done by Prospeed. The hat adapters were incomplete in machining as the center had to be opened from 103 to 106mm diameter. Once machined and fitted, the kit fits perfectly. No run-out issues, no vibration at speed. I have bedded them in with Pagid Orange pads. Calipers and rotors were from Crescent Porsche. My Mille Miglia Cup1 replicas with with huge clearance, Kinesis 17" Supercups fit well too without spacers. Very pleased with this set-up, as I added the 5/33 valve at the same time. Here is a complete photo install sequence:

I have a nice hard pedal too. My MC was replaced with an ATE unit (later unit?) and so the pedal is very firm. After the initial pressure bleed, the pedal was still spongy, so I drove it hard, let it sit overnite and re-bled in the morning with the pressure bleeder and with me manually pumping the brake pedal and clutch. The bias valved change introduced alot of air into the system since I had to pull off the reservoir to access the valve.

There are big red kits out there for 86 951s?
edit:
*sigh*
I always forget that yes there are, you need 17" wheels for these kits, and that my 16" Fuchs aren't compatible with big reds, so nevermind.

I'm going to install the same kit that Eugene just did. And I got them from the same batch that Paragon bought, so I'll have to mill out the insides by 3mm too. But I'm gonna get mine to fit inside of 16" wheels, heh, heh...
"what's the difference between and 86 944NA and an 86 951, in terms of brakes? "
BIG!
The 944NA uses 282.5mm discs with single-piston calipers while the 951 has 298mm with 4-piston calipers. But the only real benefit BigRed upgrades on the 951 is for track-usage where you've got multiple full-efffort stops in a row. On a single stop, BigReds won't give you much improvement in stopping distnaces. However, on the track with 10 full-power stops in a span of a couple of minutes, the stock brakes will fade after such abuse and you'll get longer and longer braking distances. What helps with the Big Reds is the larger rotors with more mass, they will heat up less for the same amount of heat-energy absorbed. They also add over 10-lbs per corner.
On the 944NA, you can improve braking-distances dramatically by getting grippier pads. Like some of the Hawk pads. This will give you identical braking performance as the 951. Again, the need for big brake upgrades is when you've got track duty. In which case, the 951 front brakes will make a similar improvement on the 944NA as going to BigReds on the 951. You'll only add about 4-lbs per corner. BigReds will add about 15lbs per corner on a 944NA.

I guess I'm asking if they will slide on or is the spindle and mechanism too different between a 944na and 951 1986? I also want to know if the rear suspension is very different between a 1986 944na and 1986 951. I just like to know this stuff...

Kurt, Yes, there is this upgrade available for the 86. I have done it myself. In fact I had posted a couple illustrations I made about 2 years ago. I would do a search on my name and big red upgrade. The hat's and adapters I used were much different that the one shown above and required machining the hub so that the hat fit over the hub instead of behind. In my opinion, it was a better way to go. Good luck.
