Default Look at these head/block pics

Well I got it off (the bolts holding the cam tower on had more than 80 ft/lbs of torque, my hands are killing me).

The head was supposed to have been replaced recently and I think most will be able to tell it was not THAT recent!!

Part of how this project started was finding an oil leak, after I had the engine out and back in it was apparent the leak was still there, now I know why. The cam tower gasket was to tight is literally broke apart and the HG looks to have been leaking around 1 and 4 cyl. I have lots of pics, I will try to describe them as well as I can.

This is one of the spots where oil had continued to leak. For those unfamiliar that is #4 cylinder by the passenger firewall.

So what did I learn? Sometimes things happen for all the right reasons. I found the washer I dropped and you guess it, it was not in the head as I suspected. However, had I run 21 psi through that gasket it would not have made one dyno run without going so all is well.

For those who have the know how, what do you think about the head and block? Should I do anything with the head. I know it is off but I have got to get this car moving soon as it appears I will be moving soon myself. Anyone got a head they want to swap? TonyG - got anything cool lying around?

Bottom end looks good.. carefully clean the tops of the pistons so you don't get hot spots from the carbon. While the head is off, I'd have a fresh valve grind and new stem seals tossed in. Short of that, most everything looks it age.

For #2.. you had some coolant in there at some point. Although in this case it's easy to point to the nasty head gasket, but I would check the head for cracks.

Looks like fun!!!

There is no question that I WOULD NOT put that head back on. I would thoroughly clean the block and have the head rebuilt.

You have the head description reversed. What is 1 & 2 on the head is really 3 & 4. So the second picture as "Here is the same spot..." is the other end of the head.
