Which gauges should I install??
I'm in the process of pulling out the stereo from my track car and was planning on filling the spot with a gauge panel and would possibly add a gauge pod if I needed to.
This is a track/race only car and is being prepped for stock class - therefore, no engine mods allowed, no chips, no MAF/MAP, etc... The exhaust is a Lindsey 3" mild steel system.
What gauges would be sensible to install?
Thanks for the input.
Rick

Well if the engine is stock it's not that crucial but boost and EGT are the 2 most important gauges in my opinion, together with a wideband labmda.

The biggest thing missing from the stock gauges is oil temperature. If you've never seen the temps these cars produce on the track you'd be scared...
I am going to put in oil temp, EGT, and wide band when I finish my gauge panel.

Who makes a wide band in a round gauge? I haven't been able to locate one.
Also, does anyone offer a 3 gauge pod for the door pillar? The ones I've seen will only hold 2 gauges.
Thanks much.

First off, oil pressure, oil temperature, and water temperature. All mechanical gauges rather than electrical sending if possible (270 degree needle sweep vs a 90 degree needle sweep = much better gauge resolution as well as higher accuracy), and of course the boost, a/f ratio, and EGT.

Hey TonyG, car still for sale? I heard a rumor you wrecked it at the track -hope that was a bad rumor. What's your latest dyno run?
Thanks,

i'd say oil temp, oil pres. and one of those combo wideband o2 / duty cycle things (numeric o2 in center and duty around the outside as LEDs).
or just pick one of the two oils (you can kinda tell one from the other aka your pres. drops when the temp is up, or your temp is up when the pressure drops) and get a better aftermarket boost gauge, but for a stock car, well, as long as you're not pegging the factory gauge, doesn't matter.
i prefer having a boost gauge on the piller or right by the tach/spedo area, so you aren't looking so far / down etc... speaking of i have a pillar pod that i was just gonna toss (it's one of the black factory-paint-matched ones, in like 8-9 outta 10 shape).

I run EGT, Boost & Charge Air Temperature pillar guages.
Link AFR Gauge next to the stereo.
Oil temp, EGT, Boost, Injector duty cycle, speed etc are all displayed & datalogged (also peak hold needed) on a 7" LCD display.
Also a digitalk boost controller with peak & hold display in the centre console.
