HKS CAMP - be forewarned that it's cheap to get into, but then the interface box and sensors quickly can triple the price.

The HKS Camp seems very nice,
but for the price I guess it makes more sense to go standalone.

racerpartswholesale.com sells tees for vdo sensors. give it a looksy, they recomend oil press. and oil temp, but i bet the threads are the same and you could run two oil press. senders.

take care,
brian

I run a Link AF and VDO boost gauge. I have painted the needle on the VDO to look like the Link gauge and got some screws Link used for their face and took the bezel off the VDO and fitted theirs so it matched. I then took both bezels off and fitted a pair of aftermarket black matching ones and put them in a custom ABS pillar and incorported a clear (red light) shift light in it. Phewl, glad the exercise is over!

>>>Hey TonyG, car still for sale? I heard a rumor you wrecked it at the track -hope that was a bad rumor. What's your latest dyno run?
Thanks,
Greg>>>

Yes the car is for sale still. And no it was not wrecked at the track ... or ever wrecked.

In fact, it's never even gone off the track...

The car has never had even one wheel off at the track let alone all four wheels, etc...

You heard wrong....

Guys,
I'm still sorting this out but have two questions based on the gauges I might use:

1. What's the value of EGT in a fully stock motor? Is it that important and what would an increase in temps indicate?

2. One of the gauges I'm looking at (SPA Design) has a dual Oil temp gauge (2 displays) - if I used this, where would one suggest I put the two sensors?

At this point, I'm leaning towards SPA Design dual gauges and will probably put in 3 underneath my radio in a panel. The gauges will be:

Oil Pressure/Water Temp
Oil Temp/Oil Temp
Boost/EGT

Thanks much.

Hey Rick, I wouldn't do the twin oil temp, there's really no use for it - consider a fuel pressure or intake air temp instead.

Stock motor, stock boost, EGT would just tell you if you somehow started leaning from a fueling issue.

"1. What's the value of EGT in a fully stock motor? Is it that important and what would an increase in temps indicate?"

It is a more acurate display of air fuel, at least over the narrow band led a/f guages. If it gets real hot it is showing an indication of leaness.

If you are gonna run a wideband, most have all of the other sensors built in, and even if they don't you don't need a wideband and and EGT.

I think the Z tronic wideband one has boost and egt, along with air fuel

My system has the Flowmaster; the sound is OK but I think you'd be happier either selecting the Edlebrock that they now offer or better yet purchasing a Borla.
I'm actually going to remove the muffler next week since my car is track only.

If I had an EGT gauge my car would be in my garage and not the shop! As such I didn't fully appreciate how lean my motor was running until I melted the electrode off the #1 spark plug and found my self circling VIR on 3cylinders. My next mods after the head is rebuilt and vacuum lines redone(correctly this time) are an EGT and A/F. This way I'll know to pull off track before I REALLY toast something next time

E-stock motor too

Rick,
pull the muffler. you won't regret it . . . except when you run at Watkins Glen

Well, I made up my mind - thanks for all of the helpful input. I've just committed to purchasing 3 SPA design gauges that I'll mount in a panel beneath the radio.

I'm going with the following:

DG201 - Oil Pressure/Oil Temp
DG202 - Fuel Pressure/Water Temp
DG211 - Boost/EGT

They're not cheap but do include everything necessary to install them. I found the following features pretty attracitve:
ˇ High resolution modes for 0.1 PSI, Deg C etc
ˇ Programmable button function, recall menu etc
ˇ Programmable warning lights, low battery, averaging etc
ˇ Programmable outputs for driving external LED's or relays

I'll let everyone know how the install goes (will take about 10 days to get everything here) and what my opinion is after using them. For any that haven't seen these gauges, here's a sample pic.

Thanks again.
