If you ask the police to dust for fingerprints... they'll likely laugh at you.
I do suggest filing a report though.
It probably all depends on what the decided value is of the thing stolen.

yeah at least here, police reports are a JOKE for anything under like 10k, hell you file them by phone!!
i'd say just accept it and move on, you're likely to spend more time/energy/$$ than you'd recover, that is truly horrible, yet another reason i can't wait til get my own house/garage (it was nice working sales+tech @ a shop over the summer, and having access to a lift etc, but i'd prefer to have the snap-on guy come to MY house hehe)
