Investing in a good wideband is a great idea. Dunno what they charge up there for a 'pre-test', but around here... a few of those visits might buy you something really nice. Also comforting to get real time feedback for any changes you make, especially if it's an intermittent issue.
I've used the Innovate with good success, but one of my friends had trouble with it. I have an AEM on my race car, seems OK.... Balanger (Belanger?) has been highly recommended, but I have no first hand experience.
Keep pluggin'

In all of the cars that I’ve dynoed that have had an Innovate wideband installed, none have matched the reading I get off the dyno’s wideband. Now, I would expect to see some minor differences, but with the Innovate, I regularly see differences greater than 1.0 AFR, sometimes greater than 2.0 AFR. I’ve tried changing sensors, going through the free air calibration process, etc., and it still doesn’t come close to the dyno numbers.
AEM, Zeitronix, and Ballenger seem to match up fairly closely with the dyno.

I’ve gone ahead and purchased this one; AEM Electronics X-Series Wideband UEGO Air/Fuel Sensor Controller Gauges 30-0300.
Bought it from Summit Racing: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/AVM-30-0300
It stood out with the highest rating from all the wide bands I looked at. It will be nice if it lasts many months or years but it’s primary purpose is to help me identify why I’m running rich at idle. If it fails after passing smog, I don’t think I’ll be too bothered lol.
Fingers crossed it is that CO screw on the afm as you mentioned Nowanker. I’m still trying to find the manual you are referring to.
Thanks for the intel Jim O. Feeling better about my AEM purchase. The reviews online made it very difficult to choose which one.

I have PASSED!!! Woohoo. Epic results too.
list of things smog related that were changed:
-New catalytic converter (old one was gutted)
-Vitesse Racing DME chip and stock KLR chip to (old set-up was an authority DME + KLR chip) I’m not sure if I benefited from this change but I felt it was worth noting.
-all 4 fuel injectors replaced with low mileage ones (1 of the old injectors was leaking)
-new spark plugs
-New distributor cap + rotor
-oil change (20w-50)
-fuel filter change (not sure if helpful)
-all vacuum lines replaced (not sure if helpful)
-New engine temp sensor
-new oxygen sensor
-02 screw on stock AFM rotated 2 times counter clock wise
-
note worthy
-ran with a 3bar fpr
-AEM wideband reads 14.6 consistently
-coolant leak fixed
-FQS set to 0
huge thanks to everyone here for helping out.

Congratulations!
And thank you for posting your results.
Too often, interesting questions are asked, but we never learn what the solution was, or how they turned out.
