Default Dipstick does not go l the way down.

As title says, my dipstick does not go all the way down. Sticks out about 1/2 inch.
I searched archives and it appears there is an NA, 86 turbo and 87+ Turbo dipstick.

my car is an 87 turbo. The engine could be from a 86 turbo I’m not sure. Or perhaps the dipstick housing was swapped. Just saying it’s possible.

ive attached an image of the dipstick, can anyone tell which dipstick model this is?

thanks.

Looks like the late dipstick. Try to twist the dipstick at the same time as you push it down when it is in the position as in the pics. It is probably cathing an edge down there. Most late 951:s I have owned was like that as do my - 89 Turbo Cup.

its been a while and I may have had the same issue. the new style which you have won't fit in the old tube. I believe the yellow piece that goes into the top of the tube is too thick. you need the later tube as well

PF and ekoz thank for the responses.

I was jamming it in, twisting it around and managed to get it a bit lower than before. Then it reached the plastic part of the handle and would not go any lower.

Appears I need to order an early model dipstick

So it’s an 87 951 with 86 engine or 86 dipstick housing. Maybe a few minor variations (like dipstick housing) were made between 86 and 87.

some pictures

I’ve ordered an early model dipstick and guide tube from eBay. The dipstick design looks different. This should solve the issue.

Anyone know if the housing guide is interchangeable between 86 and 87+ 951 models?

Thanks for this post. I now have a new expression to use for people that I deem to be a little bit "off". Instead of saying that "his elevator doesn't go all the way to the top", I can use the new variant that you have provided, "his dipstick doesn't quite reach all the way to the bottom"!
Seriously, I hope you solve your problem!

Thanks. I’ll report back with what happens.

Did you replace just the dipstick (with the early '86 one you bought into your existing guide tube) or both the dipstick and guide tube?
