Detonation when engine is cold?
I'm setting myself up for flame-age, but here we go:
I was out for a drive this morning; I normally let the car get into normal operating range before climbing into the boost...However, today, a 911S shot by me and, well...you know...
Anyway, when I rolled on the boost, definitely heard the sound that detonation has been described to make - marbles in a coffee can, that kinda noise. Backed out of the boost, let the car warm up, WOT and - no more marbles in the coffee can...
So, my question is this: Can a 951 that normally does not experience detonation (good AFM ratios on two different dynos - rich, if anything) experience detonation due to a cold engine?
Thanks! B
PS - Also was reminded that tires like to be warm before you ask them to handle too much torque...
