Water or not to water the turbo

I am gettin a 60-1 that is oil and water cooled. I wil let it cool down after hard driving. So am thinking to not use the water cooling. What can be removed exactly? Any tricks?
PS anyone tried a cold air intake by running a 3" pipe from the turbo to the hole in the guard and then put a filter on it??? I am thinking of trying that.

you can remove the turbo water pump, all associated hoses, re-route the coolant lines, get a non-turbo coolant reservoir (i used it as an excuse to get a shiny white new one) - BUT i can't vouch for whether it's ok / safe to do this on a turbo designed for water cooling, as all of the replacement turbos i've purchased have been oil-only ones...

Hmmm I thought it would just be a case of not luming the water lines and it would not matter. You can get the same turbo in oil only, I am sure it is not designed very differently???

no, you're probably right, i just didn't want to recommend something and have it backfire on you (me). for all i know the exact same turbo in a "dry" config simply has the water passages blocked w/ a plug (but i doubt that. i'd bet the oil passages were bigger, and that there WERE no water ones).

Run the water. Especially since the car has all the plumbing for it, the turbo was designed for it, and there's no reason not to. But there are very good reasons to do so.
I don't. Why... because the center section I have doesn't have the water provisions. And.... I change turbos quite often (still trying to get the exact, on the hair of the knat's ***, perfect turbine combo....).

yeah, tony's got a great point, it'll be less work to just install it as-is. now, if your turbo water pump were bad, or coolant tank in need of replacement, etc etc...

weight, minimal, like maybe 5lb tops?
clutter, yes. part of why i did mine (and even went to the extent of finding the right tank in PET instead of just blocking the turbo-water-pump outlet port). but you should have purchased a dry turbo if this was your intent (like mine, but i THINK it's finaly sold).

I agree with Tony, if that's what you have then run the water. I'm lucky if I put 3500 miles a year on my car which is one of the reasons I went with oil cooled only and to get rid of some clutter.
