WOW, how much power do you expect to be making when you're done rage?

OK I called TEC up to ask them about the turbo. They told me that it's a T04E 60 trim all right, with a .70 A/R compressor housing. Most T04E 60 trims I've seen comes with a .60 A/R compressor housing (the one pictured on the right, which was my T04E 57 trim).

I'm assuming the bigger compressor housing will change the compressor map a bit? More flow?

My T04E 60 looks just like David Floyd's.

Alright, did some googling this morning, and found a picture of the compressor housing!

There's a .50, .60, a different .60 and my .70 compressor housing.

So now the question is, I'm looking at the T04E 60 trim compressor map here:

What compressor housing is that compressor map based on? How does different compressor housings affect the compressor maps, and by how much? I'm still a newbie when it comes to turbo sizing... Thanks.

You don't need that air conditioning up there anyway...

It can be 90 to 95 in the summer, and this past winter it was pretty mild only got down to -62F not far from Rage2.

And here's another .60 a/r T04

Concerning power... I had a .60 a/r T04B on my car temporarily to get to a track event. My top end power was pretty much gone above 6000 rpms, unlike the 60-1HiFi that pulls past 7000 rpms.

It was a big difference. Seat of the pants dyno (and we know how accurate that can be :-) says a good 50RWHP difference.

Rage

Have you done the calculations and plotted against the compressor maps for your engine before you ordered that turbo (or any other turbo)?

That compressor map looks too small for your 2.8L (and definitely for my 2.5L ).

Here's a compressor map overlay comparision between the T04E .60 trim vs a 60-1...

TonyG, I was wondering the same, and I guess it could make a difference depending on what boost level is planned as the higher pressure ratio would keep it up in higher efficiency zone. I am wondering whether that is the correct compressor map for such a obviously large compressor. You would expect it to have a higher flow than it shows at any given pressure ratio.

That's the correct compressor map.

It's too small.

Remember, I'm looking for less lag, not outright power. With the 57 trim T04E, I made about 460whp. I'm supposed to make another 50whp with this compressor and wheel, without changing lag characteristics too much. By moving up to 2.8L, it should help low rpm spoolup.

Rage

So you made 460RWHP.

Give me the specifics..

What was the engine size?
What was the exact turbo used (compressor specs, turbine specs)
What is the new turbo specs (same thing... compressor specs, turbine specs).
What dyno did you uses, and was it SAE corrected? (if a different correction factor was used, what was it?).

If you are looking for less lag, then the only thing to change would be the turbine (housing and/or wheel). Not the compressor.
