On my track car (before it became a track car), I had a gutted cat with a Bischoff cup car exhaust (sans muffler). I never thought it was too loud, none of the cops I passed on the road thought that way either.

Thats pretty inhumane there EJ. My avatar does not approve. ![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Remove the cat section, and hit it with a hammer and dump out all the ceramic shards. You can also ram a broomstick or some similar device into it. If you can weld, it might be a good idea to cut it in half and empty it and then weld it back together.

Has anyone tried one of these in place of the cat as a resonator.
Here is the description from summit racing.
Muffler, XR-1, Center 3 in. Inlet/Outlet, Round Case, Brushed Stainless
Whether it's drag racing or Circle Track racing, Borla has an XR-1 racing muffler for you. In fact, the 16 in. Shootout mufflers are rated the highest-flowing mufflers on the market. The XR-1s feature a straight-through design for maximum flow, aircraft-quality T-304 stainless steel construction for reduced weight, an all-welded, one-piece design for increased structural integrity, and stainless steel sound-absorbing material to protect against burnout.

Did you ever get your resonator?? If so, how do you like the sound with it. Mark, I was wondering the same, i.e. how much performace would one loose using a 3" performance cat in place of a 3" muffler in place of the cat to keep noise in check..anyone?
Cheers.
