Default Stupid Q: How to tell when full boost hits?

Without going on a dyno, how do you tell what RPM your full boost is attained? In another thread, I told Danno I will let him know when it hits in my car. There was a break in the weather so I took the 951 out and tried to find out. In 1st gear, I just spun my tires.... and everything happened too quick for me to tell. I don't ever do this but for sake of Danno's research.......

Is there a standard procedure to do when people say "I hit full boost at 3100 rpm" etc.?

Yes the most technical way is to check your face in the rear view mirror. If you see a real silly grin that won't go away congratulations you are in boost mode

Usually it is that a combination of keeping an eye on the tach and boost gauge in conjunction with the clenching feeling felt in the seat of your pant.

You need to be in a higher gear. Then you watch three things: the boost gauge, the RPM, and the road ahead for cops.

You'd need three eyes...

Well, I guess I can try it in 2nd or 3rd but that's alot of speed quick. Also, it would seem that you will see boost earlier in the higher gears due to the load. Oh well. I guess the only true way is to look at a dyno chart.

Danno, my seat of my pants impression while looking down on my boost gauge seem to indicate I hit full boost little less than 3000 RPM....pretty useless info...sorry

This is where datalogging is so useful. The Serial Link datalogger that works with the Link MAP systems, for example, records a time history of manifold pressure (and other parameters) vs rpm. You just turn on the datalogger, mash the pedal to the floor and keep your eyes on the road. After you've finished your run, you read the file from your laptop and it's all recorded for you.
