Default change heater control valve without removing intake manifold?

Is it saving any time and effort to swap HCV with the intake manifold still installed?

I did it without pulling the intake. I also replaced the plastic valve with a metal one. If you search on the forum you'll find the part #. I also replaced the hoses with some slightly different ones to relocate the valve away from the inspection hole on top of the bell housing. Coolant errantly going down into that whole might not be a good thing...

Definitely not a good thing I had to replace a clutch once for that exact reason. And yes it is very doable with the intake in place.

Did not pull the intake to change mine although I may have ended up sitting on the intake to install it

While you are at it, you might want to relocate it slightly for easier access.

BTDT, although when you do replace it, be very careful not to damage the speed/reference sensor wires, or you'll end up having to replace them ($$$).
