Default car won't stop dinging...

ding ding ding ding... !

I'm going crazy.
When I remove my key with everything off (no lights, no blinkers)
the car continues to ding. It dings whenever any door is open.

Is this a common problem, or do I just have some kind of electrical gremlin?

I didnt really care about this until my battery drained over the course of a week or two. :/
(while the car sat)

One of your door switches might have died. I think the switches are only 3-4$. One on each side near the hinge.

EDIT: Actually....then I would think it would chime when the doors are closed too. It would have to be light related I would think. Dome light, head lights, fog lights....something has to be on.

Pull the relay in the fusebox if you get tired of it.....mine didn't even have one when I bought it! One of the PO's removed it...got tired of hearing it while working on the car or something I guess. Keep you sane while you fix it anyway.

Haha, is the fuse just for the dinging sound?
I've already used such techniques for all the idiot lights.
might as well use it for the idiot speaker too.

Mike... Hmmm... It could be light related, I'll look into that.

The door switches are about $6 each and now they carry a 968 part number. The driver's switch has an extra tab for a wire that should go to the gong relay. The passenger's switch should only control the interior light. I'd suspect the gong relay in the fuse box is bad if it's constant. It shouldn't be too expensive to replace it but on a Porsche who knows.

But the dinging does stop with the doors closed.
(which would make sense if I had the key in the car)

So I don't think its the door sensors.

Hrmmm... maybe it thinks the key is in the car still.

Is your blinker on?

Edit: perhaps I should learn to read...

The only time it should ding is if your key is in the ignition and you open the door, trunk or hood. The contacts on the ignition may have gone bad. Car thinks the key is still in the ignition. ding ding

Are you sure nothing is in your ignition? Check the connections at the back of the switch. Check grounds!

I will check the ignition.

Come to think... this seems like a likely culprit, as when i used to turn the car off and on again, it would sometimes go away.
