wheel sizes to fit 944turbo s
well we all know the tires for the our cars are becoming rare. esp. if you are still running the 225-50- 16 and the 245- 45- 16 like i am. so if you could please let me know what wheels will fit under my 88.5 turbo s with out rubbing and also the tires you are running with the wheels. i really like the wheels i have but the only tires i can find are $1055 for 4 tires i might as well get new wheels and then have options for tires going forward.
thanks

One data point here. I'm running 9 and 10 F/R with 255/40 and 275/40 with stock offsets and no body mods. The 255's rub a bit with track duty on a slightly lowered suspension; 245's should be trouble-free.

Here is an old chart that was put out years ago. It is no where nearly complete.
I would run max 245s in front and 275s in back. But they need to be matched to your wheels.

On the track (due to alignment) you can run a bit wider tires than the street.
On my MY89 951 I used 285 and 255 18" without an issue. I used the 18" Sport Classic II (BBS), I liked them as they were strong, fairly light and look good on the 951. Not cheap, but worth it.
I've had them in storage for the last 18-19 years, ever since I converted my car to a Wide Body.
I have them up for sale, email me directly if seriously interested.
If you are on a budget, I do have a set of BBS LM replica wheels brand new.

On a late offset car like yours, the cheapest and easiest solution is to use staggered 17" Boxster wheels. A small spacer on the front to clear the hub and you're free to shop more modern tire sizes. I'm a bit on the fence about the modern styling on 80's era cars, but they're not bad. The early 17 twists from 996/986 look a little like Cup II wheels that got...well, twisted.

On my old track 951 I ran 275/35-18 in the front and 275/35-18 in the rear with no issues. I had coilovers all around with -3.5 degrees of camber in the front and -2.75 in the rear. I ran 18x10 ET60 wheels on all four corners.

Wish I would've known about that chart, before buying a set of Maxilites.
I just picked up an '88 turbo. Offset descriptions are a bit like russian to me.
But I'm slowly getting there. '88s have a different set up, compared to an '86?
and part numbers starting with 911 xxx xxx ...... definitely don't fit our cars.
(1st hand experience on that one).

I think to your original point, about cost.... 1055? So what? that 250 roughly a Tire.. Do you think you will get a tire for 150 bucks a tire that will look good on a turbo-s? I am in the same boat but I think the fact of the matter is..... tires are not cheap. Im Running 255/40/17 on the front of the racecar and 265/40/17 on the rear... They are Toyos @ $210 A piece ..
On My Street Turbo-s I am running 245/45/16 Rear and 225/50/16 on the front on the original Rims. They are all around that 200-250 Range... When I was 18 I used to burn off tires on my camaro like crazy.... I went to a local Tire guy who sold 2nd hand tires for $50.....
Its like anything else performance related... " What part of owning a Turbo-S did you think was going to be cheap"? .....

Hey RX, I was given a set of D90s off of a 90 C2. I am going to try those on my Turbo and see if they fit and how they look. If I use them I am going to store my Club Sports. With the 6" on the front and 8" on the back there will be more tires available. I basically drive my Turbo on trips and car shows so I really don't need super performance tires.
