Unhappy 951 sqeals on start up

Hey guys,

im a new b with new b questions, I appreciate the help since I am mechanically retarded.

Heres ONE of my problems......................Last night I turned my 1986 944 t on when it made a loud squeal from what seemed the front of the car, I think it came from the pulleys or belts. It made the squeal for 4 sec. just when the car started up...............what can it be>? I replaced my belts and a couple pulleys like 4 months ago and really haven't been driving it much.

Heres another when I went to turn on the heater when I accelerate it made another sueeking noise and it was loud. Once I turn the heater off it would go away.....anybody know what it could be?

Thanks in advance I really need the help and I am greatfull...

Fred

Check the tension on your belts. It goes away when the belt warms up, its no biggy unless it keeps slipping.

Go to your local car store and buy some belt lubricant. I had that same problem with my old pathfinder. Im not sure if you can use just type of oil or grease.

Belt lubricant? Maybe you mean belt dressing? It is the exact opposite of lubricant.

Lubricant implies you are reducing friction... You want to increase friction to stop the belt from slipping (resulting in squealing). The proper belt tension will correct the problem. also make sure you have the proper belt sizes - the different diameter and taper of the "V" shape in the belt can cause the same thing.

Another tip - on the ACC belt, you should be able to just barely get it to turn about 90 degrees when you pinch it between thumb and forefinger and twist your wrist. The heater puts more load on your alternator making the alternator harder to turn by the belt. That is why it slips with the heater on. The belts would also prob. slip if you put your brights on, turn your ac on, or put any other type of strain on the electrical system. (The AC actually puts more strain on the belt by way of the compressor as well).

Yes the squealing goes away when my car is warm.

But once it is warm the car still whines, it didint before but I had a pulley failure that caused my timing belt to break. I got bent valves and all that, once I had the car put together again and had all belts replaced I noticed that the car whines a lot and it still weather if it cold or warm...<???

Thanks man

Did they say why the whine would go away with time? The belts in my car never whined when replaced.

Alternator bearing can screech when it's going, it can be worse when you out a load on it.

mine did that after replacing the belts, all I did was put some STP belt dressing and tighten the belts, that fixed it
