Nakamichi made the best of the consumer home tape decks; if their approach to car audio was similar, this could be a very good sounding unit! I didn't even know they made car radios.
I agree, though: a bit too modern. Perhaps in a 968...

Yes, defiantly 90’s styling so a 968 maybe...oh no maybe I’ve become a purist! There again I used to cringe when listers posted pictures of their 944’s with 968 mirrors and door handles, so maybe I always was a bit of a purist, lol. I just thought that they just spoilt the looks of their classic 80’s car with those rounded 90’s mirrors and handles even though they must have spent a fortune on them. Personal choice I suppose so it’s all good

Three Wheelin'
Installed this last weekend, replacing PO's stereo which did not mach the look of the interior.
Thoughts so far
- Much easier install than ones which include CD player as the unit is about 1/2 the depth
- Requires antenna adapter to plug in OEM antenna
- Bluetooth audio via my iPhone is great except have to press play on the phone every time after getting in car and starting.
- Bluetooth hands free is excellent, microphone cable is very long so easy to put in a good place to pick up
- Paired with a 5 channel amp, ( ) which accepts speaker level inputs so in my situation did not need RCA's from the head unit
- Setting up options such as clock, region, etc. is a bit wonky but once set you are good to go
There are better head units but for the price it is very good IMHO and matches interior very well
