Stock Turbocharger variants?
Looking at a race category rule that allows any turbo, providing "the compressor housing inlet diameter is no larger than the original standard turbocharger compressor wheel inducer diameter plus 10%."
So which stock turbo of all the 944 and 968 variants had the biggest inlet diameter?
And when you add 10% to that, what are current options for most efficient turbo of that size?

Apparently there have been some guys modifying stock turbos to great success.

Been down a few paths the last couple of years Pat...
I started building a motor for sports sedans but then got busy the last couple of years with work so put that on hold.... I bought another 944 road car and started modding that for targa events but haven't finished that...I have been close to buying a Radical in Dubai ....but now I am again looking at different options for possibly running the 944 next year now I finally have found some some time again to dust it off.
I suspect the turbo size restriction kills the possibility of building anything too exciting for prodsports - thus the questions, but its one possible option now I see they have relaxed some of the body and suspension mod rules for 2B.

Obviously you want to choose a turbo thats not too large for your engine, otherwise you will get too much lag coming out of tight corners. Definitely go with a aftermarket impeller (of course I would say use our RAZOR Billet..cuz they work and I do love that sound.. (evil laugh). But lighter billet impellers with more aggressive blades spool up faster and can make more power due to less flex in the blades. As we all know larger isn't always better, rules makers can kill a good car. Been there.
That car that can put 3 car lengths on you coming out of a tight corner will equal 6 car lengths at the end of the following straightaway... and I've found that if FOR SOME REASON your setup can reel in 6 car lengths on someone on a straightaway the rules makers will throw weight on you for the next race (yet they so often disregard how fast you come out of a corner and credit gearing). So don't forget about the value of that power coming out of the corner and how its viewed on the track by the powers that be.

Yes, but so far I can't find an accurate reference for the compressor inducer diameter used on the particular K27 version used on the 968. anyone know that? Seems like the K27 came in a lot of different versions and sizes. If you are right about 2.5inches thats 63mm which means you can go to any turbo with a 69mm inlet, which might mean you can make something work decently well on a 3l motor. But I thought the inlet was smaller than that.

7006 - IN 52.40mm EX 76mm from searching the net.
This is just assuming porsche would have used something they've already got laying around. maybe smaller turbine wheel.

To be honest I am having a bit of trouble understanding the rule the way its written. If the "compressor housing inlet diameter" can't be bigger than 10% more than the original "compressor inducer diameter" then assuming the inducer is somewhere between 52 and 55mm, then the inlet of the biggest turbo allowed can be a maximum of 57-60mm.
What does that mean in real terms of available modern turbos and what could be achieved for torque and power on a 3 litre engine?

I have been thinking about it. It doesn't make sense. With more modern turbos the inlet is much bigger than the inducer. so does that mean you have to down size turbos?
