I used to use an 8-lb battery from my Honda motorcycle. But during cranking, the starter would pull the voltage too low to operate the electronics. It would start just fine if I push started it.

So I was thinking of doing a dual-battery system with an isolator. A small gel-cell @13v would supply the electronics and won't be discharged through the starter. That way, voltage stays high while the starter draws the battery down to below 10v. Here's a listing of the Odyssey batteries

Ken, the proximity of the positive terminal to the car chassis scares me. Not sure exactly how I'm going to mount mine just yet.

i'm thinking of getting an optima yellow 51, can i move the battery to the rear, like behind the passenger seat or something. i took my rear seats out anyway so i dont have to worry about rear passenger leg room (not like anyone was gonna fit back there anyway)

My friend just got a SVR battery for his NIssan 240sx with a silvia motor conversion, due to space isues, Its very small, not sure about weight. But i think it has 600 CCA's. He got it at Tweeter for $127.

You definitely need new wiring to remote-mount the battery.
