Default Question on my K26 turbo

Okay, I have a question here. Someone mentioned in the ID of the "S" Turbo upgrade that on the plate that is on the turbo that it would have a 951 part number. Mine does not. It does say K26 and on the next line it says: 86 935 2098. There are another group of numbers below that that say 5326 970 6720. No 951 anywhere on that blue ID plate. Is this a regular K26? On the housing itself for the compressor side Could this mean that someone replaced my turbo along the way (probably the original owner)? Any idea if this is a normal turbo for this car or if there is something up here?

Just curious......

Thanks!

Nevermind on what kind it is....I finally found it. If anyone is interested, here are part numbers you can read off your plate and see the part number for the turbos. It is a standard K26 for the 944 Turbo, but any idea why it doesn't have a 951 part number there?

"any idea why it doesn't have a 951 part number there?"

Because it's a KKK product, not Porsche.

Thanks Danno!!!

Okay.....so some slightly misleading info elsewhere here on the board then

I was wondering if it meant someone had replaced my turbo. With 120k on it, it seems to have no play in it that I can feel.....seems in very good condition.

I know how you feel Andrew. Here's one for ya!!

My turbo has no KKK stamp on intake side, but KKK stamp on hot side. 2.75" inlet and same size as K26 but holds ful boost to redline. ??????

2 of the 3 turbos I have to look at right now have a 951 part number on the data plate. One is from an 88 S, the other an 89. The one without the 951 part number is on an 87. So it could be that the K26/8s have the 951 part number stamped on them, or that it was done MY88 and later, or it was done inconsistently, or... anyones guess.

Borg Warner (who bought KKK) also has the KKK/Porsche part number cross reference on their site. You can still buy both 944 versions of the K26 from them, around $750-800 new.

Interesting Oddjob (Bond fan???)....and very strange Todd!!!!

Well, I'm just glad mine is in really good shape, means I can do some other things to the car without having to worry about the turbo yet.
