pros/cons of a WG tie in

If you don't have a wastegate tie-in to your exhaust, your wastegate will dump to the atmosphere which is a big no-no for emissions. It's for track only applications. Unless you're in a state without testing.

I've heard other turbo cars without a tie-in, but never a 951. The other cars were too loud for the street in my opinion. I'm sure someone else on here can give you a first hand 951 impression.

I think they call it a screamer pipe with the WG goes to atm. I have been in an EVO with one, not that much louder. Makes a different kind of noise though... hard to explain.

As mentioned, emissions is the only reason not to - the noise isn't much louder in my experiences. Exhaust flow is a little better without the tie-in's added turbulence, though how much is hard to say, and the same goes for boost, with lower exhaust backpressure on the turbo.

On some car its not as load because of the wastegate location.
But on our car its load.

I plan on installing a resonator, or rerouting it back to the muffler.

I have my WG dumped to the Atmosphere. It is wicked loud.
Its all personal preference though. I dont usually get on boost driving around town so I never hear it. I do love the sound though.

ive seena few cars around ehre that have them release to teh atmosphere and they do emissions testing ehre. will it actuly make the emissions test worse, or is it jsut illegal to have done?

Guys, correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the wastegate dump pipe feeds into the exhaust after the catalytic converter on the 951 stock converter pipe, so I don't think emissions is a concern or affected. Anyone have a picture of a stock cat?
We (a friend and I) recently picked up a 951 that had the WG venting to atmosphere. The only problem was that he didn't cap off the tube on the cat pipe so most of his exhaust exited under the car instead of through the muffler. It sounded like a 327 with a blown header gasket.

Here's a picture of a factory pipe. As you can see the WG dumps well after the CC and therefore will not impact emissions if you remove the dump pipe. On the rolling dyno emissions tests the WG does not open, but I'm not sure how Porsche slid this by the EPA certification?
