Oil cooler schematics and drawings
OK, i'm used to working on FFR spec racer cobras that have front-mounted oil cooler reliant only on airflow. Can someone post a few photos and maybe a small schematic of the oil system (paint?? anyone?? ) to show how the 951's use coolant to cool the oil??
Thanks everyone,
Kevin

Kevin,
I'm not sure exactly what you need, but I imagine you'll find it here:

Kevin, the 951 do not use coolant to cool the oil, the NA cars have a water cooled oil cooler, the 951 has a front mounted cooler that is reliant on airflow.

Mark, explain how EYAL's oil and coolant mixture issue is being blamed now on the oil cooler seals than the head gasket? I'm getting pretty confused now, lol

FSAEracer03,
The housing is the same as the n/a, so both fluids are still present, only the oil cooler itself is now external. So if the seals fail, coolant and oil can still mix.

The housing is somewhat different than the NA unit. The area that is filled with the cooler in the NA has the oil thermostat on the turbo cars. They have different part numbers too. There is a small area of coolant at the base however, so you are correct that there does still exist an opportunity to mix fluids if the o-rings go bad.
While on this subject, which side of the oil filter is getting the pressurized oil straight from the pump?
