Default Just joined the MAF club!!

Just finished installing the SFR MAF kit and hardpipes with Greddy BOV. Hats-off to Tim for answering all my newbie questions regarding wiring, hoses, etc.

I bought the pipes and MAF used from 2 separate people and did not realize there are 2 versions of the J-pipe for the stock vs Greddy BOV. Mine of course was a stock BOV-version. I have McGyver'ed a connection from the Greddy to the J-pipe using a combo of 1"-3/4" copper reducer pipe fittings and washer drain hose from Lowe's. Not exactly sexy but it works.

Hooked it up to the Split Second Arc-2 and set the ***** to Tim's suggested points - 11:00 low, 3:00 mid, 8:30 hi, 1:00 accel. Car fired up immediately and idled fine with no stumbling. Went for a trip 'round the block and it stumbled at 3k rpm and over. Leaned out the mid and high slightly and now it runs like a scalded cat. I currently have no A/F meter so it is tuned by feel and smell. I know it is still rich but I will head to the dyno ASAP for a proper tuning.

My set-up is 86 951 140k miles with APE stage II chips, LBE, 3bar FPR, 2.5" Bursch test-pipe, 3" SS cat back, stock 26/6 and stock wastegate(still strong), LSD tranny with ltw Fidenza flywheel and new clutch. Suspension is Racer's Edge/Leda coilovers, M030 sways, Blaszak steel control arms, stock brakes with Hawk HP+ pads. Previous to the MAF the car would run a 14.4 G-Tech 1/4 mile with a shot clutch. Car now feels faster than my 00 996.

Next step I plan is to do the Tial 38mm WG and MBC. Car is heading for the track in 2 weeks for it's inaugural session.

Are you serious?

Wow, you have a collection of cars, how about donating any of those to me.

v944god - the E55 is the wife's

John - I bought the MAF and pipes for about $1200 total, used on eBay and Rennlist classifieds.

Heading for the dyno tomorrow. Will post results ASAP. BTW, I hate to admit it but I love the ricer wastegate noise!

OK, just finished the MAF wideband dyno. Initial settings recommended by Tim were very close, but slightly lean at idle and very rich at WOT. Ended up dialing the ARC-2 as follows:

11:30 low, 2:00 mid, 7:00 high (-20%), and 7:00 accel (+0 gain). AFR at idle is about 14.5, dropping to 13.0 at 4k rpm, down to 12.0 at 5k rpm, and staying between 12.0 and 11.5 to 6500 rpm. Basically, We could not lean out the top end anymore without going too lean in the midrange. Shop suggested using a Super Apexi instead.

Power #'s SAE HP 251.4 at 5800 rpm, Trq 285.2 ft-lbs at 3700 rpm.

BTW, even though the car feels alot faster after tuning, I now have an off-idle slight stumble. Not terrible, but annoying.

Maybe it's my misunderstanding of the capabilities of the k26/6 but don't those numbers seem a bit low for having the MAF, chips, etc? Did you do a baseline run at any point before putting the MAF on the car?

Actually I was quite pleased with the numbers since it was done running on 30lb replica Ruf rims. On Phonedials I would expect another 10hp. Also after talking to Tim, I realize that my 3 bar FPR is too high and making the top end too rich. I will probably switch to an adjustable FPR so I can further lean out the top end which should bring even more power.

Wouldn't a 3" test pipe to match the 3" cat-back exhaust help free up some too?

I will eventually go to a 3"test pipe. The 2.5 was a Rennlist Classifieds special- I could not pass it up. Now that the car is taking shape I am more open to dumping some $$ into it!

Sami, I want my car to look like that one (yours?). I love the clean euro bumper and red tailights!

Heheh, yes it is (or actually at that time it was still owned by the previous guy). Taillights are simply painted, euro bumper might be more difficult to get. I believe GT racing makes a fiberglass replica, dunno if it's good or not though...

eclou what boost were you running and does it drop off up top? Once you get a good waste gate and a mbc your numbers will probably improve some

I'm running 15lbs I assume - gauge goes up to 2 bar at WOT and then drops just off it at towards redline. LBE is set at 10lbs per recommendations and wastegate is stock no shims. Car now spins in 2nd gear under throttle!
