Today I got my new turbo back from being rebuilt, and unfortunately one of the fins on the turbine wheel has been bent.
Now I'm talking with the rebuilder about where to go from here.
Can bent fins be repaired and then rebalanced?
If not, it'll need a new turbine wheel. The turbo is apparently an old vitesse stg 2. The turbine inducer is 64mm and the exducer is 56mm. It's sitting in a turbonetics k26-8 rear housing.
From reading around, it seems the turbine wheel is a Garret T3 Stage 3? Now what I'm not sure on, is whether these wheels are machined to fit the k26-8 rear housing or does the housing get machined to fit the wheel?
If I got a generic Stage 3 wheel would it fit the turbo? Or do I need to get one from a Vitesse stg 2, or other possibly any other hybrid turbo with k26-8 rear housing?
Thanks John, yes I'm thinking this will be the best course of action. Thankfully the turbo guy will cover the cost.
Assuming it is indeed one of your old turbos, could you please tell me what kind of turbine wheel I need to find for it? Or any chance you might have one lying around?
It arrived damaged from your rebuilder? Send it back.
Yes it did, and yes I am sending it back. I just need a positive ID on the turbine wheel so we can find a replacement that will fit. The rebuilder has never worked with these turbos before so I want to make sure we get the right stuff for it.
