Default Red ! symbol on dash

What does the red ! symbol on the dash display signify? This flickers when driving the car. Nothing else seems out of the ordinary. The car will not pass safety inspection with this light on.

Could be a number of things as it’s a sort of central warning lamp. First thing I’d check is the handbrake micro switch as it may have shifted out of adjustment and now operating as you are driving.

If flickering I would guess a low fluid... such as the Brake / Clutch fluid reservoir. If it isn't your ebrake, check fluid levels...

Iirc battery, alternator, oil pressure, oil level, brake/clutch fluid and handbrake will all put that “!” light on.

+1 on the hand brake. Jiggle it a bit and see if the light flickers. You can always hard-wire it closed for inspection in need be, while waiting for parts....

Most of the things mentioned also throw their own warning light, so the question is what would cause the "!" light to flicker by itself.
My experience with fluid levels has been that the sensors have a bit of hysteresis so they don't cause things to flicker when you're "on the bubble"... also it would change as you go around corners, etc., but the OP hadn't said.
I was thinking this sounded like some kind of gremlin... (?)

I'm a little curious about this mystery light too! My "!" has never lit up, not even when starting or turning key to ON. I've had the car since 69k miles, 10 years now. I always thought perhaps it's the bulb, though kinda odd for a dash bulb to blow at such low mileage? Now that I see it's connected to so many things, I'm wondering if I should look into this...

I thought the cardinal graham meters had their own idiot light? Or are you suggesting the prefamulated amulite went bad?

Unfortunately it could be just that Tom. I know, scary huh. We haven't seen another case like this since...well, The Incident!

unfortunately yes. It flickered on sometime just like what your describing. Then one unfortunate day it came on and the engine stopped spinning altogether. I never found a dingle arm to replenish sinusoidal recirculation that was needed apparently.
