Question power window help

Bought a 1986 951 with the windows not working. Here is the problem.
The passenger door had the door panel off, with the window motor unbolted from the door inorder to have it completely rolled up. The driver's door is up with no problems other then it doesn' work. When i bolt the passenger door window motor back in, the window is stuck about half way down. I thought it was the relay, because the odds that the window would die in the down position, and the fact that the driver's side also doens't work. It was not the relay, so now I am stuck and am wondering what to do next. Im not sure if it could be the switches because, it would seem odd to me that all three switches could be bad at the same time and before I buy new window motors, I would like to try any other possible solution. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Roric

1986 - it could be that the motor just died - common.

Here's a thread from Martin Taylor that was on the e-mail list. Hope this helps!
=====================================================

This is a common fault, the drivers switche needs to feed the switch on
the
other side when in the off position, when the contacts get dirty or
worn
they will fail to make in the off position, this is why they will still
work
in the drivers side as they do not use the other contacts when only one
switch is used.

The window motors in these cars are ground switched, this means with
the
motor at rest there should be +12v on both motor wires, when either
switch
is operated it switches one of the feed wires to ground which applies
12v to
the window motor in the appropriate direction.

The left window motor is fed from blue and black/blue wires, the right
is
fed from blue and blue/white wires.

To test the wiring the easiest method is to bridge out one switch and
then
test at the feed point of the other

To bridge out the wiring at the drivers side passenger switch do the
following.

Remove the switch
If you look at the rear of the switch you will see some numbers next to
each
pin.

It should look like the following

5 -

2 1

3 4

The socket will be opposite of this but is not labelled

- 5

1 2

4 3

cut and strip the ends of two short pieces of wire and connect as per
the
following

Connect between socket one and four with the first piece of wire.

Connect between socket two and five with the other piece of wire.

These two pieces of wire simulate the drivers side switch in the off
position, with these two wires in place there should be +12v on both
feed
wires at the passenger side, you can either try either of your switches
or
test for power at the passenger side.

Socket four at the passenger side switch should have +12v
Socket five at the passenger side switch should have +12v
Socket three should be ground
Sockets one and two connect to the motor.
Let me know how you get on.
