I think 106 gasket is standard size for anything over 100m bore, like factory stock 3l gasket which is 106mm.

I did see cometic gaskets in both 105 and 106, but that may be the case. Pistons will be here today and I'll find out. Not going to bother Michael with any more questions.

Received goodies today.
On another note, Michael left this as a note for the machine shop person and I have no idea what he means:
"- Be sure to install oil shields adjacent to each cylinder at the bottom of the cylinders."
Ideas?

MM is the $heit or like a 951 Godfather and to not take what he recommends is kinda a foul. He probably was thinking you needed more of a sealing surface for your application. I would get what he recommended and not put his name on blast about not responding. Edited. So if he said 105 then I would have gotten the 105 if he changed to a 106 then get a 106. He has been doing this for a while and has an awesome reputation in this community. Just a heads up. And with the oil shields, I believe he is talking about how to install the rings. I'm not sure thou So I would think install the oil scrapper rings 90 degrees from each other but 45 degrees from the exhaust side of the blocks center line, meaning the bottom
side of the piston. Then due the same with the comp rings, just never line up a comp ring with the groove of the oil scraper ring. I could be totally wrong on what he's talking about thou.

I think he means steel plates that close the gap on both sides of cylinders on bottom side. I wonder why.
Logic would suggest oil slosh on the side of the cylinders would help cool them some.
I remember seeing 3L 951 on ebay years ago, built by some famous US builder and complete modification list with pictures. On one of those pictures, plates were removed and explanation was he removed them for better cooling.

I'm fully aware of his reputation, and I appreciate that he was willing to do the work for me, when he has basically retired from the game. He did fantastic work, and I paid for that. But to have him swear at me for asking a simple clarifying question was a slap in the face.
I'm by no means talking down him or his work.
Btw, are you down in Arcata/Eureka? I went to HSU for a few years. That's where I got into autocross first.
I'm glad I'm not the only one unsure of what was meant by that note... Hopefully we can decipher it lol
I think he uses voice dictation like I do sometimes, so I was trying to think also if that autocorrected something..

Regarding Cometic head gasket, the standard 3L gasket they supply has an actual bore of 4.173"+/-, so it's fine for most all overbored 3L blocks.
BTW, I'm happy to provide guidance, but lots of phone calls/texts asking questions already answered can be irritating.

it makes sense now. I thought they were bore-specific.
ill check out the manual as you posted above to get clarification on the other item. thanks for your help. im looking forward to this build coming together!

Aha. I will have to source those - or see if they were in the package with the block. I noted that you sent the head studs and hardware - thank you for that.

honestly I have no idea. numbers on other builds are all over the board. This turbo is relatively small as I am going for quick response more than anything.
