Cool Easy Standalone?

I have been running the MAF kit, bigger turbos, injectors etc for the past year. Now, I am contemplating whether to upgrade to an aftermarket standalone system for my Daily Driver.

As I am from Taiwan, hence the lack of tech support for P-cars, especially for the 951s. The ideal system for me would have to be "plug-and-play", preferably with basic maps for the ease of tuning.

LINK2/Tec3/SDS/Motec/Haltech/DTA/Authronic...

Who sells the "easiest to install" standalone system for our cars? i.e. using stock harness and plug in with minimal modifictions... Any recommendations?

Plenty of used MAF/MAP kits for sale out there but no one seems to be parting their standalone unit. Perhaps there are fewer users as compared to the MAF/MAP. Or maybe there are no better upgrade-options available.

Anyhow, in case if anyone wants to part with their "tested-proven" standalone system and complete with the neccessary harness..... send me a PM, I am interested.

I know Boost guy has a proven Link system for sale. He's a regular on this board. This system comes with a complete terminated harness, ECU etc. Probably has a good map in it too. Hopefully he will see this and reply.

The Link setup is the easiest to install by far as they offer a complete replacement wiring harness... true plug-n-play.

Also they offer a modified cam cover housing that allows you to install a trigger... pretty trick.

Although I've not run one, and as such I can't attest to the strengths or weaknesses of the cpu and associated software, it does appear to be the easiest to install (no wiring skills necessary).

Good luck,

Just checked out PD's website on the Link2, not much information on the harness etc ... just send them an email.

From reviews, everyone seems happy with it...

BTW, What kind of injectors are used? Are 55lbs Siemens compaitible?.... what are the "stock" parts that will be obsolete in a Link 2 setup?

Stock parts obsolete are the AFM, idle stabiliser if you want (it idles fine without it), All the stock boost control, DME and KLR boxes and chips. Your factory booost gauge will no doubt become obsolete!!!! Your engine harness if you go with PD. I think thats about it from memory.

It's actually very easy to retain the stock boost gauge. The KLR is a little bulky to function purely as a gauge sending unit, but at least it's not very heavy.

Chris White at www.944enhancement.com has worked out a nice Tec3 package for the 944T. He will also supply you with a startup program that will be fairly close to what you need and follow-up support after the sale.

Be careful in selecting a stand alone system if you need support. Both the Tec3 and the Link have people here on the board that will support the system. I purchased my Tec3 from a guy here on the board that promised support but did absolutely nothing!!! Thankfully Chris White stepped in and saved me a lot of grief.

I was more coming from the perspective that you will be running more boost. I think a person with a Link would be better served selling the KLR and buying a mechanical VDO boost gauge for example.

Actually, TEC3 generates a startup program for *any* engine. Plug in numbers in their engine spec page, and it'll generate a base map that will get you going. Your fuel map is actually based on this base map (+/- 50%).

The Link also comes up with a start up program... not that having a start up program saves you much.... inlight of all the time that will be spent on and off the dyno, properly setting up any stand alone system.

Hey.. on a different subject... I picked up another DME, so I can send you a replacement or yours back... that is if you want it. Or we can settle up latter for other stuff.. Either way is fine with me.

Rage, It's true the Tec3 will generate a startup program and mine did. However, that program was way off for my car. With the program Chris White sent I was on and off the dyno in 1.5 hours, strap down - roll off. Chris knew where you could make big steps and where it was advisable to make small steps. All in all I saved a lot of time and money not to mention not having to worry about blowing the engine. I consider that as 'time well spent'.

A start up program is a mute point in my opinion, as Tony said. It goes into the "so what" category. That would be the ranked point number 101 in terms of considerations when looking at comps.
